Your Tyres and your safety Caravan tyres are designed for Caravans and differ from car/van Tyres, take in to consideration a car has four wheels two of which are drive wheels and two of which are for steering, Four wheels to support the weight of the vehicle and tyres which are designed for traction, that need to grip the road when under force when cornering, Cars also have suspension on all four wheels to give a more comfortable drive, Where as a Caravan has limited suspension and relies on the tyres to compensate for the extra weight. |

When cornering most of the weight of a caravan is transferred to the
wheel on the opposite side, So caravan tyres need to be Reinforced and
are usually 6 to 8 ply, The tyre pressure needs to be correct as to
compensate for the lack of suspension, over inflated tyres will
obviously make your suspension harder, and under inflation will cause
your van to bounce, Both Under inflation and over will have adverse
affects on your tyres i.e. Cracking, splitting and wear. |
|
|
The minimum Tyre depth/Tread should be no less than 1.6mm across the centre three-quarters of the tyre tread width and should be checked regularly, although they may look ok ! tyres should be changed every five years, even though you may not have used your van in a while, tyres deteriorate if not looked after correctly, Uv rays, snow, ice and rain all affect the condition of your tyres. | |
